Preparing the Soil
March 2009 (PDF:282k)

Do you count the bare necessities as gifts from God? Are you satisfied in all your work? I pray that you are healthy and fulfilled in all your toil! Here in East Africa the land is being prepared for sowing. Driving into town, one can see a young boy walking behind two cows yoked to a “plow,” donkeys laden with plastic jugs of water, children with hoes weeding the fields, and women carrying sticks and grass on their heads. Some farmers rent a tractor with three discs to till their fields. Soon the rains will come and then our Village will be surrounded by maize and sunflowers.
